An Australian Government, State and Territory initiative
The Go for 2&5® campaign was originally developed by the Western Australian Department of Health. It has now been run in most states and territories across Australia, including NSW. The campaign features the animated ‘Vegie man’ character.
The aim of Go for 2&5® is to increase the number of adults and children eating adequate amounts of fruit and vegetables by increasing:
- awareness of the recommended daily amounts to eat
- positive attitudes toward fruit and vegies
- knowledge of the health benefits of eating fruit and vegies.
Go for 2&5® mainly targets household shoppers and food preparers because they have the most influence on a family’s fruit and vegetable consumption, particularly children.
Since 2006, Go for 2&5® activities in NSW have included television, print and radio advertising, outdoor advertising, supermarket promotions and regional community events.
Visit the NSW section of the Go for 2&5® website for publications such as fact sheets, brochures, recipes and poster. You can also download the Vegie man colouring-in sheet, as well as the order form for free publications (NSW residents only).
A number of tailored Go for 2&5® programs have been run in NSW schools. These include Crunch&Sip® NSW and Fruit ‘n’ Veg Month.
Go for 2&5® campaign evaluation results from NSW and other states indicate that people are aware of the campaign and that it has led to positive shifts in knowledge and behaviour.
If you’d like to spread the Go for 2&5® message, you can order and display the poster, try out some Go for 2&5® recipes with your family or send your friends a link to the Go for 2&5® website.
