The Healthy Kids website is a joint initiative of NSW Department of Health, NSW Department of Education and Communities and the Heart Foundation.
The development and promotion of the website is a key initiative of the current NSW Government Plan for Preventing Overweight and Obesity in Children, Young People and their Families 2008-2011.
The website was built with the purpose of being a ‘one stop shop’ of information for parents and carers, teachers and childcare workers, health and other professionals and kid and teens about healthy eating and physical activity.
It is intended that the Healthy Kids website is the primary website in NSW for healthy eating, physical activity and obesity prevention. The information contained on the website is centred around the ‘5 ways to a healthy lifestyle’ messages:
- Get active each day
- Choose water as a drink
- Eat more fruit and vegies
- Turn off the TV or computer and get active
- Eat fewer snacks and select healthier alternatives
A Healthy Kids website management committee with representatives from each partner agency has been in place since the inception of the Healthy Kids project.
