To assist Canteen Managers to implement the Healthy Schools Canteen Strategy, the following resources are being developed:

10 Steps to a Healthy School Canteen

The 10 Steps program supports and contributes to the Premier's Priority of tackling childhood obesity by supporting students to have a choice of healthier food and drink options in their school canteen. The program will provide guidance, support, ideas and interactive advice on menus, stocktake, promoting and meeting the requirements of the Food and Drink Criteria.

Menu Check Service

The NSW School Canteen Menu Check Service commenced on Monday, 19 March 2018. Local Health Districts will facilitate school menu checks through the Service until the official launch at the beginning of Term 2. Support through the Live Life Well @ School program and the Secondary School Support Service will assist Canteen Managers with the menu check process.

Ready, Set, Choose - a simple checklist

Ready, Set, Choose aims to provide a do-it-yourself check for schools to check and make changes to their canteen before submitting a Menu Check application.

Online searchable database - Food Finder

This is an online database that classifies foods and drinks as Everyday or Occasional, and provides other helpful information including Health Star Rating and portion sizes. It covers packaged, commercial products as well as freshly made items. The database is designed to support those implementing any of NSW Health's healthy food provision policies, and will be able to be used by Canteen Managers to help them decide whether a food or drink meets the Food and Drink Criteria for primary or secondary schools.

GREAT CHOICE - Healthy School Canteens

To help promote the Healthy School Canteen Strategy and support canteens and schools in their current work of providing healthy choices for students, the Department of Education has developed design ideas to engage students and parents and support the canteens in their ongoing promotion of healthier menus.
