Kids it's Time to Get Active

kids skipping

Is it cold and wet outside? Or sunny and warm? Are you at home with your mum? Or will friends be dropping in for the day?

No matter what the weather is like or how many people are around, there’s always loads you can do to have fun and be active!

Just one can be fun

When there’s only one, you get to set the fun!

Being by yourself gives you time to practice stuff so you get better.  If you play a sport, why not practice some of the skills?  If you play netball, you can practise goal shooting or passing and catching against a brick wall.  If you play cricket, set up the garbage bin as a wicket and bowl a few overs of leg spin!

Other things you can do:

  • Hopscotch
  • Make up a dance
  • Skateboarding
  • Hula hoop
  • Bike riding
  • Fly a kite
  • Juggling
  • Tennis against a wall
  • Rollerskating
  • Set out markers and kick your soccer ball in and out of the markers

With two there’s even more to do

It’s great fun to hang out with a friend – plus there’s even more activities you can do when there’s two of you.

Together you could:

  • Have a handstand contest
  • Jump rope
  • Practise bowling or pitching and hitting with different types of bats
  • Play one-on-one basketball
  • Try badminton, with or without a net
  • Have a table tennis tournament
  • Make up a cheerleading song and dance

When there are a lot of you

Lots of sports and games work best when there is a group of kids.  Soccer, touch football, relays, softball, cricket and chasings are all great fun when there’s lots of you playing.

You can also try:

  • Hide-and-seek
  • Bullrush
  • Oztag
  • Skateboard contest
  • Volleyball
