National Quality Framework

The National Quality Framework (NQF) provides a national approach to regulation, assessment and quality improvement for early childhood education and care services across Australia.

The NQF includes National Law and National Regulations, a National Quality Standard (NQS), assessment and quality ratings process, and national learning frameworks.

This helps deliver a higher standard of care for children in the critical areas of education, health and safety. It also provides clear and comprehensive information for families so they can choose the best services for their child.

All early childhood education and care services are assessed and rated against the National Quality Standard

Standards on nutrition and physical activity are included in the NQS under Quality Area 2 'Children's health and safety'.
