Two school girls eating fruit

What is Crunch&Sip?

Crunch&Sip® is a set time in primary schools for students to 'refuel' on vegetables and fruit and 'rehydrate' with water.

Students who are not hungry and are well hydrated perform better in the classroom, show increased concentration, and are less likely to be irritable and disruptive.

Crunch&Sip® is not a prescriptive program. Each class or school can choose a suitable time and way for students to participate in Crunch&Sip®.

Crunch&Sip® supports nutrition education in the classroom with links to the curriculum and creates a supportive school environment.

Crunch&Sip® schools have a positive impact on students by:

  • creating an enjoyable daily routine that increases fruit and vegetables intake
  • promoting a positive attitude towards fruit, vegetables and water
  • incorporating nutrition education into key learning areas of the curriculum.

What support do schools receive?

Crunch&Sip® takes a ‘whole of school’ approach, with the program incorporated into school policy.

The Crunch&Sip® School Resource Pack provides guidance on how to implement Crunch&Sip® in a school.

Schools can also order parent brochures that can be used to inform parents about Crunch&Sip®. The brochures are availaible in English (PDF 1.39MB), Arabic (PDF 1.39MB), Mandarin (PDF 733KB) and Macedonian (PDF 567KB). To order copies of the Parent Brochures click here (Word 3.13MB).
