Gardeners Road Public School
Live Life Well @ School Case Study

Gardeners Road Public School has 200 students in six mainstream classes and four Support Unit Classes. Around two-thirds of the students are from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and a significant number of students come from Pacific communities.

Significant initiatives from the Live Life Well @ School program include:

  • the P&C, though small, has been very supportive of the focus on healthy living and active lifestyles, helping construct the community garden (even bringing a digger with them!) and organising a healthy breakfast as part of the Walk to School Day and the Walk-a-thon
  • the local Bunnings Warehouse provided support with the construction of the community garden, as well as with Plant a Tree Day
  • Live Life Well @ School initiatives have been integrated into the School Plan
  • implementing Crunch&Sip® in all classes across the school
  • creating a Scope & Sequence of Fundamental Movement Skills
  • providing professional learning for staff
  • including integrated units of work across the school
  • teaching nutrition in all classes across the school
  • boosting new teaching resources and sport equipment
  • establishing a sports equipment borrowing scheme for lunchtimes
  • appointing Crunch&Sip® Kids – a team of House Captains and Vice-Captains who undertake to promote healthy eating and active lifestyles to other students
  • involving students with developing their own ideas to promote the aims of the Live Life Well @ School program

Gardeners Road Public School will continue to reach out to parents in order to spread the healthy active lifestyle message at home, particularly among Indigenous and Pacific communities.
